Division of Land Management
About the Division
The Division of Land Management is a part of the Bergen County Department of Parks. Its mission is to protect and provide additional open spaces and to maintain and enhance the quality and degree of open space throughout the County. Open space is, essentially, land that is not developed with buildings. In other words, an area whose character is dictated by the land itself rather than what is built on the land. Land Management can take many forms, including parks, forests, greenways, wetlands, and farms. Open space provides various functions such as a habitat for various plant and animal life, an environmental filter for bodies of drinking water, and a place for enjoyment of outdoor recreation activities. Our Division includes the following sections:
- Land Acquisition by the County
- Farmland Preservation & Right-to-Farm Programs
- Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, Farmland & Historic Preservation Trust Fund
- Land Stewardship
- Park Planning
