Biography

Thomas J. Sullivan Jr. is a lifelong Bergen County resident who cares strongly about making Bergen County a leader in education, economic opportunity, and quality of life.
Commissioner Sullivan was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Board of Commissioners in January of 2015. As a Commissioner, he has served on the Board’s committees for: Social Services, Shared Services, Law and Public Safety, Transportation, Community Development, and Planning and Economic Development. He was subsequently chosen by his colleagues to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board for 2017 and Chairman of the Board for 2018.

Commissioner Sullivan brings both his demonstrated leadership in Local 164 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and his experience in public service to the Board of Commissioners.

Starting out as an Apprentice Electrician, Commissioner Sullivan learned the value of hard work and the opportunities that come from it. Through many years of innovation and commitment to his career, he was elected Vice President of Local 164 in 2010, and President in 2013, a position he still holds today.
Commissioner Sullivan’s prior experience as an elected official includes serving on Bergenfield’s Borough Council from 1998 until 2002, and Montvale’s Borough Council from 2005 until 2008. Tom and his family currently reside in Montvale.

Tom’s wife Jody is a second grade teacher in Bergenfield Public Schools. His oldest daughter Kenzie is a third grade teacher in Fairview Public Schools, while his younger daughters, Jadyn and Kerrin, are students at Pascack Hills High School.

Commissioner Sullivan is privileged to serve all of the residents in Bergen County and will always continue to work hard for them.
