HIV Testing and Counseling Program
Bergen County is committed to reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. The Bergen County Department of Health Services will fulfill this commitment with the services performed by the HIV Testing and Counseling Program.
- Engage in risky, unprotected sexual behaviors, like having sex without a condom and having multiple sex partners. Additionally, men who have sex with men and individuals who have anal sex are at high risk of infection.
- Have other sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, bacterial vaginosis, and herpes.
- Use or have used injection drugs, or used sharing needles or syringes to inject drugs.
- Received blood products in the United States between 1978 and 1985 before all blood was tested.
- Had exposure to the virus as a fetus or infant before, during birth, or through breastfeeding from a mother who is HIV positive.
