Mental Health Services
Who We Are:
The mission of the BC Division of Mental Health Services (BCDMHS) is to assure that Bergen County residents of all ages, from youth to the aged, who need treatment for a mental illness have access to care, regardless of ability to pay, in compliance with the New Jersey Administrative Code [NJAC] 10:37.
The Division aims to raise awareness that mental illness is a disease, not a choice.
What we do:
- Planning and Oversight
- System Coordination
- Public Education
- Information, Referral and Advocacy
- Liaison between State, Regional and Local Planning Bodies
If you or a family member are experiencing the signs or symptoms of a mental illness and feel you are in crisis, call 201-262-HELP (4357). Crisis counselors are available 24/7 to guide you through the next steps of getting help.
Bergen County Mental Health Board
Established under the provisions of the New Jersey Community Mental Health Services Act (N.J.A.C. 10:37), appointed residents provide public leadership in the development of mental health resources in its advisory role to the Bergen County Department of Health and the Bergen County Board of County Commissioners. The Board typically meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 6pm. For meeting details, contact the division.
Public Education
The Division of Mental Health Services offers and links interested parties to resources to increase community awareness of mental illness and suicide prevention. Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Contact the department for additional information.
