Maintenance Supervisor, Grounds - County of Bergen Department of Parks & Recreation – Division of Park Operations
Under the direction of the Park Manager, the employee will supervise and work with staff performing grounds and/or turf maintenance tasks and do other related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
- Maintains essential records and files.
- Prepares clear, sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Assist with timesheets and schedules, under the direction of the park manager .
- Supervises and works with staff performing grounds and/or turf maintenance tasks.
- Ensures staff keeps lawns, gardens, parks, and other outside areas healthy and visually appealing.
- Trims and cuts grass and hedges.
- Operates lawn mowers, weed trimmings, edgers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, hedge trimmers and other equipment associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities.
- Performs minor maintenance on mowers and other equipment including changing oil, lubricating parts, and making adjustments.
- Supervises the work operations and/or functional programs and has responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and/or disciplining of employees.
- Supervises the storage of equipment and supplies.
- Marks athletic fields and other recreational/game areas, fills holes in playgrounds, regrades ball fields and keeps play area free of debris and dangerous obstructions.
- Water trees, shrubs, and lawns.
- Paints signs, benches, tables, bleachers, and other items as required.
- Picks up refuse and litter from grounds.
- Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas, sweeps walks and spreads salt.
- Rake leaves and debris.
- May operate motorized or electric snow removal equipment.
- Sprays for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Clean restrooms.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
Schedule:
- Full Time – OT occasional.
- Able to work weekends, holiday and varied shifts.
Other:
- Three (3) year of experience in the care and maintenance of grounds and one (1) year of the experience indicated above must have been in lead worker or assistant supervisor capacity.
- Possess valid in New Jersey driver’s license.
- Valid CDL license (preferred).
- Appointees may be required to obtain a pesticide applicator certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
- Skilled in various trade laborer such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, mechanics, and electric.
