BERGEN COUNTY, NJ – Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney has announced that the County Division on Disability Services has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Henry A. Kessler Foundation. The grant will be used to increase the programs and activities of the Division on Disability’s six weekly Post Stroke and Disabled Adult Support Groups.
Program functions include group discussions, activities geared to promote personal fitness, arts and crafts, ceramics, trivia games, exercises, physical therapy, entertainment groups, guest speakers, and occasional leisure or recreational outings.
“Each group is unique in its approach and activities, and open to all persons with disabilities,” said McNerney. “No fee is charged to participate and the programs afford individuals a weekly opportunity to interact in a supportive setting.”
“In this climate of fiscal austerity and cuts in state and federal resources, this award is indeed welcome and will be put to good use serving our constituents,” said Valerie Williams Dargan, Ph.D., Director, Department of Human Services.
“This infusion of $10,000 is an indication of the awareness of the Kessler Foundation of the benefits of weekly socialization and activities for our many stroke survivors,” said Jim Thebery, M.A., CSW, Division Director.
