VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP BERGEN COUNTY CONTROL GEESE POPULATION

  2/5/2010
Contact: Sheri Hensley
(201) 336-7349
(Hackensack) The Bergen County Department of Parks is offering free training sessions for Goose Egg Addling.  In this process, eggs are rubbed with oil to deprive them of oxygen, which keeps the egg from developing and ensures that goslings don’t hatch.

In recent years, the once small population of "resident," non-migratory Canada geese in some areas have grown substantially and are considered pests because of environmental concerns related to the bacteria in their droppings and noise. Goose egg addling is viewed as a humane population control method.

The training sessions are as follows:
  1. February 9, 2010:
    Bergen County Freeholders Meeting Room
One Bergen County Plaza; 5th Floor
    Hackensack, NJ 07601

  2. February 10, 2010:
    Westwood Community Center
    55 Jefferson Avenue
    Westwood, NJ 07675
On both days, there are two sessions offered, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am and from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Volunteers can attend any of the sessions. For more information and to register for a session, please contact Carmen Baca at 201-336-7296 or cbaca@co.bergen.nj.us
