Hackensack, NJ - The Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders returned both Freeholders Bernadette P. McPherson (D-Rutherford) and David L. Ganz (Fair Lawn) to the dais at the 2006 Reorganization Ceremony on January 4th in the Freeholders Public Meeting Room. The Board voted unanimously for McPherson to retain her position as Chairwoman and for Ganz to remain as the Board's Vice Chairman.
"It is a unique opportunity to be a public servant and one that I do not take for granted," stated McPherson. "I am grateful for the support of the residents of Bergen County for allowing me to continue to serve with dignity and justice."
Freeholders McPherson and Ganz were both sworn in to a second three-year term in accordance with their November victory. McPherson and Ganz both began their service as Freeholders in 2003.
"It is an honor to have the confidence and support of the citizens, and I am gratified to have that same support and confidence from my colleagues on the Board," said Freeholder David L. Ganz (D-Fair Lawn).
Chairwoman McPherson highlighted the Board's initiatives of 2005, among them their work to provide for the seniors and the disabled, efforts to preserve the County's open space and Teterboro Airport, where in particular, McPherson took leadership to spear-head public safety by making Teterboro Airport and the towns surrounding it safer.
State Senator Joseph Coniglio (D-Paramus) administered the oath of office for Freeholder David L. Ganz, with Ganz's sister Dr. Sandy B. Ganz accompanying. Freeholder McPherson's father-in-law Kenneth D. McPherson administered the oath of office for Freeholder McPherson, as both the McPherson and Prendergast families accompanied her.
Among the dignitaries present were Senator Joseph Coniglio (D-Paramus), Senator Paul A. Sarlo (D-Wood-Ridge), Assemblywoman Joan Voss (D-Fort Lee), Assemblyman Robert M. Gordon (D- Fair Lawn), Congressman Robert E. Andrews (D-Haddon Heights) and Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D- Long Branch).
"I have learned that the biggest responsibility as Chair of the Board is ensuring the public's right to be heard," remarked McPherson. " I have also learned that the biggest responsibility as Freeholder is to listen and respond to those we represent and advocate on their behalf."
