Project
Name:
Roller
Hockey
Rink
Project
Location:
740
Old
Mill
Road
Amount
Awarded:
$35,000.00
This
project
entailed
the
construction
of
an
outdoor
roller
hockey
rink
that
could
accommodate
the
growing
need
outlined
by
the
Borough’s
Recreation
Commission.
The
Borough’s
pre-school
and
elementary
school
population
has
increased
by
26%
over
the
past
few
years.
The
Borough
has
1500+
children
enrolled
at
its
three
public
and
one
Catholic
school.
Unfortunately,
the
Borough
had
no
such
facility
and
had
shared
its
roller
hockey
facilities
with
the
Borough
of
Oakland.
The
Borough
had
a
waiting
list
of
children
and
teenagers
wanting
to
play
roller
hockey.
A
full
sized
roller
hockey
rink
was
constructed,
complete
with
boards,
Plexiglas,
bench
areas
and
even
a
penalty
box.
The
rink
can
also
double
as
a
basketball
court
as
basketball
stanchions
and
backboards
were
also
installed
along
the
perimeter
of
the
rink.
This
$35,000
grant
was
used
in
conjunction
with
over
$300,000
of
the
Borough’s
matching
funds.
The
project
was
completed
in
the
summer
of
2002.
