Professional Development
The Office for Children meets the continuing education needs of the early care and education community by providing a wide variety of affordable professional development opportunities throughout the year. Parents of young children are always welcome to enroll in any of our classes.  Most classes are held at One Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack, NJ, conveniently located in central Bergen County and accessible to all major bus routes.  On-site parking is available.

All of our professional development opportunities are geared to satisfy staff development requirements for providers in centers and family child care homes, as outlined in the NJ Core Knowledge and Competencies for Early Childhood Professionals and the NJ Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers

Professional Impact NJ (PINJ) is the official method by which to register for all events and workshops sponsored by the Bergen County Office for Children. In order to register for any of our Professional Development opportunities, all educators must be active members in the PINJ Registry. 

Registering on PINJ is easy!  The PINJ Registry is a free service. Go to  www.pinjregistry.org, click on “Register Now” on the right side of the screen, and follow the instructions.  

Once you have your PINJ number, you can register for our workshops directly via PINJ.  Follow the instructions below:

After you log into PINJ, go to “Find Training” on the left side (see below).

Where it says “Select a search category”, select “Sponsor Name” from the drop down list (see below).
Where it says “Enter search criteria”, select “Bergen County Office for Children” from the drop down list.

You will then see a list of all of our current workshop offerings.  Click on the desired workshop and follow the instructions for enrolling.  You will receive an e-mail confirming your enrollment. 

Currently we are not connected to the PINJ payment system; therefore, you will still have to pay the Office for Children directly for your workshop(s).
We will continue to accept payment as before: please mail your check or money order within 5 days of enrollment, payable to the Bergen County Office for Children to:

Be sure to include the following information with your payment:
Name and date of the workshop(s) you are requesting
Your full name / Position / age of children you work with
Center/Program name or if you are a Family Child Care Provider if applicable
Center/Program address or your address if you are a Family Child Care Provider or a parent
E-mail address
Work number, Mobile number, or Home/evening number

We are committed to helping build and improve the services provided to our youngest citizens, their families, and those who support them. 

The Office for Children also maintains a lending library of professional resources. If you are looking for resources on a particular topic or tools for staff development, we have current titles that you can borrow for use at your site.
