Non-Public School Nursing
The Nonpublic School Nursing Program has been a successful contractual arrangement among local boards of education, nonpublic schools and the department. It provides school nursing services and incorporates health promotion and primary prevention services, that is, screening, referral, follow-up and individual counseling.

By June 2001, 45 nonpublic schools in 23 towns had contracted with the department for direct and/or supervisory nursing services.

Nursing supervision provides school nurses with a system of peer support and supervision in the form of, but not limited to:
  • Monthly in-services for skills updates
  • Wellness training
  • Five-day-a-week, on-call phone consultation for unusual health issues
  • Supervisory visits for assistance in program development

Mantoux Testing
This year the program provided direct Mantoux testing on 173 faculty members and students in 25 schools. A total of 1,695 hours of nursing supervision time was recorded for the 2000-2001 school year.
