Bergen County Freeholder Chairman/Mayor Jim Carroll is a 29-year veteran of Verizon Corporation and a brother of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He is currently the Mayor of Demarest.

Jim and his wife Debbie are residents of Demarest. They have four children, Jim Jr., Courtney, Katie and Melissa. Even before serving our community as a councilman, Jim volunteered his time to the kids of Demarest. He was a coach for the Demarest Athletic Association and St. Joseph's CYO for 15 years. Jim also served as youth director at St. Joseph's and initiated a successful outreach program for senior citizens.

As a Bergen County freeholder, Jim was selected to complete the Freeholder term of the seat vacated when Dennis McNerney was elected County Executive, Jim is enthusiastically meeting the challenge of governing after years of Democratic back benching. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Chosen Freeholders with his chairmanship term beginning in 2009.

As a member of the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Freeholder Carroll's committee assignments include: Community Development, Organizational and Internal Affairs,
Parks (Chair), Human Services (veteran's liaison), Labor and Personnel (Chair), Public Works (Chair)

His board assignments include: Municipal Advisory Council, National Association of Counties, and Bergen Regional Medical Center, New Jersey Association of Counties, Board of Social Services (chair), Board of School Estimates, and Utilities Authority Liaison.

Freeholder Carroll is a liaison to the Freeholder's Municipal Advisory Council, the New Jersey State Legislature and the Solid Waste Advisory Council. He sits on the Board of Social Services as the Chair of the Board of Directors and is also a board member of the New Jersey Association of Counties (current vice president) and a board member of the National Association of Counties, serving as the vice chair of the telecommunications steering committee.

Jim is determined to represent the interests of the working families of Bergen County.
