Adopt
a
Stream

| The
Bergen
County
Environmental
Council
has
adopted
Van
Saun
Mill
Brook
in
Van
Saun
Park,
Paramus.
The
Council
does
annual
cleanups
of
the
stream,
and
conducts
biological
monitoring
three
times
a
year
(see
biological
monitoring
in
Van
Saun
Brook)
.
The
results
are
sent
to
NJDEP.
In
addition,
the
Council
has
restored
250
feet
of
stream
bank
by
the
playground
in
Van
Saun
Park.
The
work
was
done
in
three
separate
plantings
with
the
help
of
many
volunteers,
including
those
from
Genzyme
Biosurgery
and
the
Master
Gardeners.
Alan
Koenig,
Landscape
Architect
for
the
Bergen
County
Parks
Dept.,
supervised
all
three
plantings.

Council
wrote
and
was
awarded
a
319(h)
grant
from
the
NJDEP
for
$100,000
to
repair
a
collapsed
stream
bank
wall
in
Van
Saun
Park.
The
Parks
Dept.
will
administer
the
grant. |
