Home ownership is often seen as a fundamental component of the "American Dream". However, for an increasing number of working families in our areas, this dream has become unattainable. Facing some of the highest real estate expenses in the United States with often inadequate down payments and rising interest costs, many Bergen County residents find themselves unable to translate hard work and dedication into home ownership.

In response to this dilemma, the County Executive, through the Bergen County Division of Community Development, has formed an innovative public/private partnerships to provide mortgage financing at below-market intrest rates. The primary goal of the program is to provide the opportunity to attain the "American Dream" for many working families in our country.

Expanding home ownership will contribute four fundamental advantages for families in Bergen County:

A commitment to strengthening families and good citizenship;
A commitment to community;
A commitment to economic growth.

Expanding home ownership will strengthen our local economy and provide an opportunity to achieve affordable and social success. In partnership with local banks and community organizations, Bergen County will make the "American Dream" of home ownership a reality for many working families.
