What is shared services?
It is the "sharing" of items or services between public entities (municipalities, school districts, the County, etc) in order to reduce redundancy and save taxpayer dollars.
We invite you to further explore this website. Here you will find information relating to ongoing projects, happenings within the County and other useful reports and news.

"We have all become very comfortable with the concept of 'home rule'," says County Executive Dennis McNerney. "The reality, unfortunately, is that this individuality costs a great deal more than if we were able to share some of the operating expenses of municipal services with other government entities," he says. "Doing more with less doesn't mean we will sacrifice good, quality programs and services," he adds.

During McNerney's administration, the county has led the way in sharing services such as: the creation of the Bergen Municipal Bank allowing municipalities, school districts, and non-profits to finance equipment purchases or minor capital improvements at the lowest interest rates available at any time of the year; regionalizing 9-1-1 communications and public safety dispatch; and establishing a panel to explore a county ambulance transport insurance reclamation program that would allow insurance dollars to be returned to local municipalities and volunteer corps to help defray the growing cost of providing 24-hour local ambulance service.

"I have embraced the idea of sharing services as a means to save taxpayer dollars. Transportation, air quality, sewage, and public safety are all regional problems, which require regional solutions," says Mr. McNerney.
