Totaling nearly 9,000 acres, Bergen County boasts an Glen Gray Park Sceneexceptional park system where residents can ski, skate, jog, cycle, golf, picnic, camp overnight, tour a zoo, visit a Revolutionary War battle site, take a guided nature hike, swim, play softball and tennis, and so much more.

The Bergen County Park System features a nationally accredited zoo, five golf courses, 21 parks, two horseback riding areas, an environmental center, and nine historic sites. In addition, there are many passive areas for those seeking solitude.

Information about hours, rates, directions, and permits may be obtained from the Bergen County Department of Parks by calling (201)336-PARK (7275) or visting our website (www.co.bergen.nj.us/BCParks).

Most parks open at 7:30 a.m., close 1/2 hour after sunset. Exceptions are made for lighted tennis courts and ice skating areas while the lights are on, for lighted ball games, for overnight camping (permit requried), for the Environmental Center Exhibit Hall, and for the Bergen County Zoological Park.

Exceptions also for these fee facilities: Campgaw Mountain Ski Center, Darlington Park during the swim season (opens at 10:00 am), Bergen Equestrian Center and Saddle Ridge horseback riding facilities, the Van Saun Park Railroad, Millennium Carousel, pony rides and the five golf courses - Darlington, Overpeck, Rockleigh, Orchard Hills and Valley Brook.

Smoking prohibited at any playground, ball field, zoo, and any area where children congregate.
