ASP INSTRUCTOR COURSE (DT*)
September 22 - 23, 2003

The Bergen County Police Academy is please to announce the sponsorship of the third annual ASP Instructor Training Course, here at the Law & Public Safety Institute. This course will qualify a police officer as an in-service, ASP baton instructor. With the growing popularity of the ASP expandable baton, this higly sought-after course has been schedueld once again. Any agency in Bergen County may send one (1) instructor candidate to this two-day school. Instructor candidates must provide their own ASP manufactures expandable baton and side break scabbard, along with a refundable check or voucher payable to ASP, Inc. to reserve their space in the class. Please note the check or voucher will be refunded the first day of class. Please read the attached information sheet, complete the application and send it via mail or fax to S.O. Chuck Silversstein at the Academy, Fax # (201) 785-6036. A photocopy of the check or voucher, faxed with the application, will hold the candidate’s space for this class. Please register early as this class was extremely popular last year.

ASP INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION
PARTICIPANT APPLICATION

ASP Instructor Certification Seminars are conducted without charge to the participants, agencies or distributors. You will need to provide your won duty equipment (16", 21", 26" or 31" ASP Tactical Baton and Scabbard). Feel free to call Armament Systems for a listing of ASP Distributors in your area who stock ASP Tactical Batons. In addition to an ASP Baton and Scabbard, you will need the following training materials:

  • Gym Clothes
  • Cup
  • Whistle and Lanyard
  • Shoes with linear Lateral Support
  • Duty Belt for the ASP Scabbard
    (No functional firearms are allowed in class)

Registration for each Instructor Training Seminar is limited to the first 40 participants. To assure you enrollment in the program, please return this registration form as soon as possible.

AIC Training is 16 hours in length. Classes are conducted from 8:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 5:00 each day. This program is being conducted:

TRAINING BRIEFING BULLETIN

RE: ASP INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION (AIC)

This Training Briefing Bulletin is sent to you in an attempt to answer questions associated with the upcoming ASP Instructor training that you will receive. Should you have additional questions concerning this training, please contact: Carrie Pagel - Training and Certification Section - Armament Systems and Procedures, Inc. - Box 1794 - Appleton, WI 54912 - (920) 735-6242).

INSTRUCTOR SELECTION CRITERIA

The following standards are offered as guidelines for the selection of individuals to participate in the upcoming ASP Instructor Training Program. These criteria are general guidelines only. The final responsibility for selection on Instructors rests with the individual’s agency:

A.    No known heart problems
B.    No known bone or joint disorders
C.    No history of back problems
D.    Able to perform a one-mile run in 12 minutes
E.    Able to do 25 push-ups consecutively
F.    Able to perform 50 bent leg sit-ups in consecutive order

PREPARATION

To prepare for the ASP Instructor Certification (AIC) Program, the following exercises should be undertaken:

A.    Wrist, elbow and shoulder limbering and strengthening
B.    Leg strengthening
C.    Back limbering
D.    Aerobic conditioning (fast walking, jogging, running, swimming and bicycling)

LIABILITY RELEASE

A Release from Liability must be signed by each individual prior to the training program.

FIREARMS

No functional firearms are allowed at the training.
