ADV offers a comprehensive approach to intervention
for individuals and families experiencing domestic
violence. Our services include: 24-hour hotline;
intake assessment; substance abuse evaluation;
psychological evaluation; individual, group, and
family counseling; dual-focused counseling addressing
substance abuse and domestic violence; legal advocacy,
including court appearance preparation and court
accompaniment, legal consultation and referrals;
community and school-based education; professional
training, information and referral.
The Office coordinates child care services in
Bergen County, with a focus on availability, affordability
and quality of child care. Parents are assisted
with counseling on choosing child care, referrals
to child care providers, and child care subsidies.
The Office trains, registers and monitors family
child care, and provides professional development
opportunities and technical assistance for the
child care community.
The Division provides transportation for persons
with disabilities, older county residents and
veterans. Services are provided for medical visits,
therapy, adult day care, employment, attendance
at senior activity centers, shopping and recreational
events. Over 500,000 trips and one million miles
are logged each year.
The Division develops and implements
programs for residents with disabilities and serves
as the clearinghouse on matters concerning the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Services
provided: PASP, Post-Stroke & Disabled Adult
Support Group, Respite Care Program, Meals on
Wheels and Socialization Conference Call for the
home bound. The Division is also a key partner
in Bergen NJ EASE.
The Division provides direct services to troubled
youths, families, educators and the community
through counseling, therapy, activities, residential
services, and supervision/monitoring/corrections
services.
The Division provides funding and support to
various community-based organizations that promote
the well-being and independence of older adults.
The Division administers a Meals on Wheels Program,
sponsors numerous educational/outreach events
and serves as a key partner in the Bergen NJ EASE
system which simplifies access to information
and provides care management services needed by
older adults and people with disabilities over
the age of 18 and their families.
The Division was established to advise veterans
of their rights and benefits through the VA, assist
in the completion of forms, help with obtaining
entitlements and direct veterans to employment
opportunities through its “Hire A Vet”
program. It also operates the Tracers Program
which is an all volunteer non-traditional outreach
project to locate and provide assistance to homeless
veterans.
The Office’s mission is to help the county
government in attending the needs of the community
while serving as the bridge between the government
and the diverse spectrum of communities in Bergen
County. The main purpose is to help in the positive
growth of Bergen County’s diverse population
for the good of the whole community. The Office
works closely with the community and also reflects
the views of the County Administration in its
initiatives.
