MISSION
The Office’s mission is to help the county
government in attending the needs of the community
while serving as the bridge between the government
and the diverse spectrum of communities in Bergen
County. The main purpose is to help in the positive
growth of Bergen County’s diverse population
for the good of the whole community. The Office
works closely with the community and also reflects
the views of the County Administration in its
initiatives.
Goals
The goals of OMCA are to:
- Provide a conduit for information exchange
among the various cultural communities in Bergen
County
- Raise the level of cultural awareness and
appreciation
- Enhance the ability of individuals, organizations,
and communities to create a society that is
strengthened and empowered by its diversity
- Educate the community on issues of cultural
and diversity competence
OMCA is the liaison to the county government
that serves the diverse population of Bergen County.
The director of OMCA advises the Executive Office
of the County Executive, the Director of the Department
of Human Services, and other Bergen County entities
that have interest and concerns in the area of
services and programs for Bergen County's multicultural
community.
Committees
The Board of Chosen Freeholders and County Executive,
Dennis McNerney, recognize that the best interests
of the County of Bergen are served by the maximum
participation of all residents of our culturally
diverse community.
The director of the Bergen County Office of Multicultural
Community Affairs is the administrator of advisory
committees representing Bergen County's multicultural
community. These committees work closely with
the Office of Multicultural Community Affairs
on different issues of importance to the community
and participate in:
- Planning the Annual Multicultural Family Resources
Fair
- Providing expertise and information to avail
appropriate county programs and services to
the community.
The Director of OMCA represents the County Executive
and/or the Director of the Department of Human
Services at community activities to:
- Provide information and materials about county
program and services
- Collect information regarding specific issues
of concern or importance to specific communities
- Facilitate cultural awareness and appreciation
African American Advisory Committee

The African-American Advisory Committee is composed
of volunteers dedicated to enhance and expand
existing opportunities and resources for African
Americans in the County of Bergen. Through partnerships,
information exchange, activities to increase cultural
awareness and recommended program priorities,
the Committee will enhance the full participation
of the African-American community in the County
of Bergen.
Latino Advisory Committee

The Latino Advisory Committee is composed of volunteers
with a mission to improve the development and
access of county services to the Latino community.
Through its informational programs and partnerships,
the Commission works to create a culture to encourage
full participation of Latinos in the County of
Bergen.
Asian American Advisory Committee

The Asian-American Advisory Committee is composed
of volunteers who seek to enhance access to services
and cultural understanding between the Asian-American
communities and county government. The Committee
seeks to address issues relevant to the Asian-American
community through informational programs, cultural
exchanges, and civic initiatives.
