Haworth Woods

Applicant: Borough of Haworth
Trust Fund Award (1999): $625,000
Total Acquisition Cost: $2,500,000

In the 1999 funding round of the Bergen County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund, the Borough of Haworth received an award of $625,000 to help acquire 14.7 acres of watershed along the southern shoreline of the Oradell Reservoir on Lake Shore Drive. Preserving this land increased protection to our drinking water supply by preventing development on the Haworth border of the Reservoir.

This site is one of the county’s last remaining forested areas resulting in much activity on its walkways. It allows the public an opportunity to interact with nature that has become increasingly difficult to enjoy due to the decline in accessible open space. The property also serves as a much needed habitat for wildlife.
