Services Offered
No single system has enough expertise or resources to accomplish its mission for all people. Therefore, the Department of Human Services collaborates with community-based organizations and recommends grants totaling over $18 million.

The department contracts with over 50 community-based agencies to provide essential human services to the county’s residents including:
  • Individuals and families experiencing homelessness
  • Individuals or families with low income
  • Individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Individuals with mental illness
  • Individuals with physical disabilities
  • Individuals with substance abuse issues
  • Juveniles / families in crisis
  • Older adults
  • Single, at risk parents
  • Veterans
  • Victims of abuse, neglect, and abandonment

It is believed that one in nine Bergen County households benefits from at least one of the many services provided or funded by the Department of Human Services.
