Teterboro Landing Site

Walmart likely in Teterboro, and Costco may follow
The Record | By Hugh R. Morley | April 29, 2013

Walmart is expected to be one of the two anchor stores at Teterboro Landing, the 55-acre retail, industrial and office project planned for the former Honeywell International site in Teterboro, and Meadowlands authorities say the developer has indicated Costco could be the other.

Plans submitted to the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission by Catellus Teterboro Urban Renewal LLC say Walmart will have the main retail spot in the mall, a 160,000-square-foot site that includes a garden center and a drive-through pharmacy.

Costco declined to comment, but commission officials said the developer has indicated the big box store is being lined up to be the tenant in the other large retail space, measuring 156,000 square feet. While the project would bring jobs and a huge tax ratable to tiny Teterboro, it could mean a loss for Hackensack. Town officials and commercial real estate brokers say they’ve heard Costco might close its River Street store if it puts a store in Teterboro, two miles away on Route 46.

The new details are part of a revised plan for a 585,000-square-foot complex including 425,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 151,000 square feet of light industrial space and 8,960 square feet of office space. The plan was submitted in March to the commission, which referred questions about the need for a new plan to the developer. Todd Schefler, a development executive for Catellus who oversees the project, declined to comment.
