Permanently
Preserved Farmland |
|
The
Bergen County Farmland Preservation Program began with
the permanent preservation of Sun Valley Farm, a 216-acre
farm in the Township of Mahwah, on April 26, 2002.
To date, 7 farms totaling
314 acres have been preserved as farmland in the County.
Payments to landowners were for the property’s development
rights in exchange for the placement of an easement permanently
restricting the property to agricultural use only. The
cost of the easement was shared between the County (Open
Space Trust Fund) and the State Agriculture Development
Committee (Garden State Preservation Trust).
